My Therapeutic Journey

My personal journey with counseling began in early childhood. Growing up, I watched my loving mother suffer with a serious mental health disorder. Watching her have to experience the pain she did, combined with adolescent emotional turmoil, I started to require more support for my own mental health needs than my parents could take on their own. I remember the frustration and loss of trust in having to go from therapist to therapist, without feeling like anyone truly understood me, or could provide me with the genuine support I really needed as a vulnerable teenager.

Unfortunately, when I was a young adult, my mother succumbed to her mental illness, which left me with a broken heart and a deep sense of grief from her loss. Again, I had to put in the time and energy to meet and schedule with several therapists, before finally finding the right fit. It took a lot to get to that point. However, once there, I realized the importance of the therapeutic relationship. I know what it feels like to be in the dark and need someone to help me shine my light.

Finding the right fit in a therapist can be challenging, as it becomes overwhelming to know how to choose from countless practitioners. I believe that the right energy/chemistry plays a vital role, as it offers a visceral feeling of “you get me.” Which is why I offer an initial session free of charge to potential new clients. We can explore together what it is you are looking for in your therapy experience, in hopes that I can be the right fit for you!
